Welcome! ¡Bienvenido!
Welcome to my blog, PocaJama! My name is Allyson, and I hope you will join me as I experience the world through food. On this blog, I will be writing reviews of different dishes from cultures around the world. If you would like, make a suggestion of a dish or a restaurant you'd like me to try, and maybe it will show up in a future post!
What's "PocaJama?"
Well, my friend, PocaJama (pronounced "poh-kuh-hah-muh") is really just a silly word. Cuban Spanish, as any Spanish speaker will tell you, is filled with slang and words that aren't necessarily found in the dictionary. One of these words is "jamar," which can be interchanged with the word "comer," which is the traditional Spanish word for "to eat." In turn, "jama" is the Cuban slang word for "food." Essentially, I thought that calling this site "PocaJama" ("little food") would be fitting because of the fact that I feel that good food isn't always easy to find. Some of the best food can be found in places that you would never expect to find good food, and in turn, some of the worst food can be found in places that you would expect to find good food. In essence, this blog is called "PocaJama" because my quest is to find good food, no matter where I may find it.
